Performance Intelligence Reports

Performance Intelligence Reports are AI-generated multi-section analyses of your published dashboard data. They provide deep, executive-focused insights that go beyond what the real-time AI chat can offer, and are designed to be shared with stakeholders as polished PDF documents.

What Are Performance Reports?

Each report is an 8-section Executive Intelligence Report generated by RWRD's AI engine analyzing the full state of a published dashboard snapshot. Reports are:

  • Snapshot-specific -- Generated from the data embedded in a published snapshot (including frozen network analysis and executive summary), not live data
  • Executive-focused -- Operationally detailed with performance driver analysis, tactical recommendations, and specific action items
  • Data-rich -- Each section includes data visualizations (charts and graphs) alongside AI-generated narrative, providing both visual and textual analysis
  • Cached -- Generated once and stored; subsequent views load the cached version instantly
  • PDF-first -- Viewed as a PDF document directly in the browser, with a download option

Generating Reports

Reports can be generated in two ways:

At publish time (background generation):

  1. When publishing a dashboard (see Publishing Dashboards), check the "Executive Intelligence Report" checkbox in the Pre-generate AI Reports section (Pro tier required).
  2. After the snapshot is published, RWRD begins generating the report in the background.
  3. A banner appears at the top of the dashboard confirming generation is underway.
  4. Generation does not block the publish flow -- you can continue using the dashboard while the report is being generated.
  5. Once complete, you receive an email with the report and can also view it from the AI Reports modal.

On demand (from the AI Report modal):

  1. Click the AI Report button in the dashboard header.
  2. If a report has already been generated for the current snapshot, it loads instantly.
  3. If no cached version exists, click Generate. RWRD generates the report in the background. A banner appears confirming generation is underway, and you will receive an email when the report is ready.
  4. The generated report is cached for future access.

Both flows use the same background generation system with automatic retry (up to 3 attempts). If generation fails after all retries, a notification appears with the option to try again.

Once generated, reports are immutable -- they cannot be regenerated or modified (see Report Immutability).

The 9 Report Sections

Every report now opens with a one-page Executive TL;DR followed by eight analytical sections. Each analytical section includes data-driven charts and visualizations alongside AI-generated narrative analysis:

  1. Executive TL;DR -- A one-page structured briefing on PDF page 1. Four elements: 3 top insights, 3 top risks, 2 key decisions leadership must make in the next 30 days, and 1 critical trade-off to resolve. Designed to be the only thing a board member needs to read before the meeting. Generated LAST in the pipeline so every element distills an actual finding from the analytical sections and the Executive Summary — never speculation.

  2. Executive Summary -- Health score gauge, KPI hero numbers, and RAG distribution chart. AI narrative covers overall health assessment, key trends, and critical issues.

  3. Health Score Deep Dive -- Full-size health gauge with threshold indicators and RAG distribution. AI analysis of each component (OKR, Financial, Risk, Freshness) and momentum assessment.

  4. OKR Progress -- Horizontal bar chart showing objective progress color-coded by RAG status. AI analysis of achievement rates, on-track vs off-track objectives, and strategic alignment gaps.

  5. Financial Performance -- Grouped vertical bar chart comparing current values, targets, and benchmarks with value labels. AI narrative on metric health, comparisons, and variance explanations. Now includes a Competitive Position subsection when the company profile has ≥2 named competitors AND a populated target market — surfaces who benefits, who's exposed, and whether the organization is advantaged or disadvantaged vs peers.

  6. Risk Landscape -- Donut chart, severity distribution bars, and category summary table. AI analysis of risk status, KRI trends, mitigation progress, and emerging risks. Now includes a Structural Fragility paragraph that names the single most fragile part of the business under current conditions — the one failure point that, if breached, would cascade across the organization.

  7. Network Dynamics -- Force-directed graph visualization of cross-domain relationships. AI analysis of systemic vulnerabilities, cascade risks, and interdependency insights. Now includes a mandatory Failure Sequence paragraph that walks through what breaks first, what breaks next, and what ultimately drives financial impact — the cascade as an executive would think through it in a crisis.

  8. Recommendations -- Prioritized recommendation cards with impact/urgency badges. AI-synthesized strategic recommendations with specific actions and timeframes. Now includes two additional structured blocks: Decisions Required (Next 30 Days) — 2-3 specific forks leadership cannot defer — and Early Warning Indicators — 3-5 leading indicators with action thresholds.

  9. Data Quality Appendix -- Progress bars showing completeness by entity type. Assessment of data freshness, source coverage, and gaps.

The Editor-in-Chief Pass

Between the content sections and the Executive Summary + TL;DR, every report runs through an Editor-in-Chief review. A dedicated AI agent reads every section with the same source-data access the original authors had (snapshot metrics, company profile, strategic context, research citations, scoring thresholds) and produces targeted edits to fix objective errors — numeric mismatches between sections, broken cross-references, contradictions, naming inconsistencies, or claims that cite entities that don't exist in the snapshot.

Edits are applied deterministically via find/replace. The Editor does not regenerate or rewrite sections — it is a surgical pass, not a second author. No user-facing warnings are produced: every issue found becomes an edit grounded in source data, or is logged as an internal diagnostic. The downstream Executive Summary and TL;DR are generated AFTER the Editor completes so both inherit the cleaned content.

Viewing Reports

To view a generated report:

  1. Click the AI Report button in the dashboard header, or click View Reports on a published snapshot.
  2. The Report Viewer opens as a full-screen overlay displaying the report as an embedded PDF document.
  3. The PDF is rendered inline in the browser using the native PDF viewer, providing standard PDF navigation (page scrolling, search, zoom).
  4. Click the Download PDF button in the top-right corner to save a local copy.

The PDF document includes:

  • Cover page with RWRD branding, company name, "Executive Intelligence Report" label, teal accent bands, and confidential classification marking
  • Snapshot metadata (publish date, generation timestamp)
  • Data visualizations in every section -- health gauges, bar charts, donut charts, network maps, and progress bars rendered directly in the PDF
  • AI-generated narrative text with proper headings and formatting
  • The PDF is automatically named: RWRD-Report-Executive-[Date].pdf

PDFs are generated server-side using Gotenberg (headless Chromium) and stored in Supabase Storage. Charts are rendered using SVG and HTML tables optimized for print readability.

Report Immutability

Reports are immutable point-in-time documents. Once a report is generated for a specific snapshot, it is permanently cached and served identically to all users who view it. This is a deliberate architectural decision:

  • Consistency -- Every stakeholder reads the exact same analysis. There is no risk of different users seeing different versions of the same report.
  • Auditability -- Reports serve as a permanent record of what the AI concluded at the time of generation. They can be referenced months later with confidence that the content has not changed.
  • Cost efficiency -- Each report requires 8 AI API calls to generate. Preventing regeneration avoids unnecessary cost.

What if a report needs updating? Publish a new dashboard snapshot and generate a fresh report from the new snapshot. This creates a clear, separate report tied to the new data -- not a silently overwritten version of the old one. The original report from the previous snapshot remains intact for comparison.

Report Email Delivery

When a report is generated alongside a publish, it can be included in the notification emails sent to Viewers:

  • The publish notification email can include the generated report as context
  • Each selected Viewer receives their own email with the report information
  • Emails are delivered via the Resend email service with RWRD-branded HTML templates

This enables a seamless workflow: publish the dashboard, generate a report, and distribute everything to stakeholders in a single action.

Scenario Briefings

In addition to Performance Intelligence Reports, Strategic tier users can generate Strategic Scenario Briefing PDFs through the Scenario Analysis (What If) tool. These are separate, scenario-specific documents that model hypothetical events and their projected impact across your metrics. For details, see Strategy View & Scenario Analysis.
